The mold Aspergillus Flavus produces a deadly mycotoxin Aflatoxin.  Aflatoxin is one of only 19 substances along with mercury and DDT that it's content in food is strictly controlled.  During the metabolic process when aflatoxin is formed, a unique gas is given off.  Our sensor can detect the signature gas, thus giving early warning of the formation of aflatoxin.  Action can be taken to prevent the formation of aflatoxin before it can form.

While our intial focus is on aflatoxin, the same basic technology can be used to detect other harmful mycotoxins, insects and gases.  With the possibliity of a single instrument to do all three in real time.



One senerio for our mold detector is to be placed in the head space of a storage bin.  The mold detector constantly monitors the air for the presence of the signature gas indicating the formation of aflatoxin.  The monitor alerts the operating staff of the potential problem.

Our nano technology allows us to detect the signature gas in the single digit parts per billion range.  In some cases, we can detect gases in the part per trillion range.

The mold monitor gives a real time warning.  No delay in waiting for analysis.  It is aflatoxin specifc unlike temperature and CO2 monitors.  For less than the cost of a moisture analyzer, you can get real time, aflatoxin specific data direct to your PC, a remote LED light, or an audible alarm.

Unlike current aflatoxin test methods, no specialized personnel are required.
